About Us

Laguna Dance Theatre offers strong pre-professional ballet training, customized to the aspirations and possibilities of the individual student. Laguna Dance Theatre founded in 1985 under the direction of Shery Gilbert and is the official home of the nonprofit arts organization Laguna Ballet.

In addition to ballet classes, LDT also offers the best in jazz, tap, lyrical, contemporary, pilates and classes for dancers from age 3 to adult.


Pre-School Dance

We have an excellent preschool program which develops rhythm, flexibility, strength, musicality, coordination and self-esteem. Mommy and me classes, ballet, tap and jazz for children ages 3-6 and summer dance camps are available.


Young Dancer

Classes are offered for the serious student and those looking for a well rounded dance education.  Dancers are introduced to proper technique and discipline in a fun and supportive atmosphere and form life long friendships.


Pre-professional

We offer a two tract program for aspiring professional dancers, or those who wish continue their education at a collegiate level.  Technique, pointe, variations, pas de deux, pilates, and dance history offer a well rounded dance education. Private coaching and original choreography are available.  Spotlight, YAGP and Prix de Lausanne competitions are recommended.

Classical Ballet – Ballet Level Suggestions/Requirements FALL 2020

Ballet Level Requirements FALL 2020/ Dress Code **All make-up classes need to be pre-approved due to covid restrictions and all make-ups need to be made in current or lower level classes.

Butterfly Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical or Combo Classes​ Ages 3 to 5.  
1-2 hour per week

BUTTERFLY BALLET/ BALLET I ​Ages 4+​ ​Recommended
1-2 hours per week. We recommend taking an additional Commercial Dance Classes (lyrical, tap, jazz, poms, musical theatre)


BALLET 2 ​Ages 6+ (Must be placed by LDT staff)
2-3 hours per week. We also recommend 1-2 Commercial Dance Classes (contemporary, tap, jazz, musical theatre)


BALLET 3A ​Ages 7+
3-6 hours per week
2-3 Technique Classes (minimum 2)
We also recommend 1-2 Commercial Dance classes (tap, jazz, hip hop, musical theatre)


BALLET 3B ​Ages 9+
5.5-10 hours per week
3 Technique Classes (minimum)
1 pre-pointe class (must be enrolled in 3 Technique classes to take)
We also recommend 1-2 Commercial Dance Classes (tap, jazz, musical theatre)


BALLET 3B ​Ages 9+
5.5-10 hours per week
3 Technique Classes (minimum)

Ballet 4 Pointe Students 

8-10 hours per week 4-Technique Classes (minimum) 2 pointe class. We also recommend 2-3 Commercial Dance Classes (contemporary, tap, jazz, broadway jazz). YAGP is recommended


BALLET 5-7

13-unlimited hours per week
5- unlimited Technique classes
(We encourage students at this level to take as many technique classes as possible) 3 Pointe classes
1 variation class
1 Contemporary Class
Recommended: Pilates program
2-3 Commercial Dance classes in (Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Broadway Jazz) YAGP is highly recommended


DRESS CODE:

BALLET
GIRLS:​ pink tights, black or solid color leotard, pink ballet shoes, hair pulled back and secured into a ballet bun.

BOYS: ​Black tights or athletic shorts, white shirt, black ballet shoes

TAP/JAZZ

Girls:​ leotards, or sports bras, dance shorts, jazz or tap.

BOYS:​ Athletic clothes, jazz or tap shoes

COMBO/BUTTERFLY BALLET
GIRLS: ​pink tights, black or solid color leotard, pink ballet shoes, hair pulled back and secured into a ballet bun. (Students are welcome to wear fancy ballet tutu’s, as long as they are able to move freely.

BOYS: ​Black tights or athletic shorts, white shirt, black ballet shoes/ tap shoes


Regular attendance is necessary to maintain your level. The office must be notified prior to ALL absences. Make up classes must be taken within the same month that the absence occurred or will be forfeited. Make ups can be taken in the students own level or the levels below. Extreme absences will result in a re-evaluation of placement.

Revised Fall 2017 Schedule
November brings a few changes to our current class schedule. Miss Sara Silkin will be taking a sabbatical in order to further her training. We wish her well and hope to see her back soon. Mr. Anthony’s Broadway Jazz classes will be moved to Wednesday nights at 7 PM and 8 PM.

In observance of Thanksgiving
Laguna Dance Theatre will be closed November 23rd and 24th. Rehearsals will resume Saturday and Sunday, November 25th & 26th.
